The COOP Trial: Rethinking Colon Cancer Screening for Older Adults - Dr. Samir Gupta
Veterans Medical Research Foundation is proud to support the Colonoscopy versus Stool-based Testing for Older Adults with a History of Colon Polyps (COOP) trial, led by Dr. Samir Gupta and funded by the national Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

Dr. Gupta is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego, and Staff Physician at the Jennifer Moreno Department of Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System. His research focuses on the screening and prevention of colorectal cancer.
Title: Colonoscopy versus Stool-based Testing for Older Adults with a History of Colon Polyps: The COOP Trial

Contracting/Performing Organizations: Veterans Medical Research Foundation of San Diego and San Diego Veterans Administration Healthcare System
Overview of the COOP Trial summary:
Dr. Samir Gupta is the local site investigator in San Diego, where we will recruit Veterans interested in the study to participate.
The Colonoscopy versus Stool-based Testing for Older Adults with a History of Colon Polyps (COOP) trial, funded by the national Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute seeks to determine whether a non-invasive strategy of using a fecal test for monitoring colon cancer risk after low risk polyp removal results in similar rates of advanced polyp detection as the standard colonoscopy based approach. The trial will recruit adults age 65 and older with a history of low risk colon polyps who are due for repeat colonoscopy to consider being randomly assigned to the novel strategy of fecal test monitoring versus the standard strategy of colonoscopy. If the study hypothesis is correct, this trial will show that a non-invasive fecal test based strategy is a safe alternative option to routine follow up colonoscopy after low risk polyp removal.

Title: Apollo Therapeutics, Limited / “A Phase 2a, Multicenter, Randomized, Double-blind, 16-week Placebo-controlled Study with an Open-Label Extension to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Camoteskimab in Adults with
Moderate to Severe Atopic Dermatitis”
Contracting/Performing Organizations: Veterans Medical Research Foundation of San Diego and San Diego Veterans Administration Healthcare System
Overview:
In collaboration with the Veterans Medical Research Foundation, Dr. Henry Wong is leading a clinical trial to evaluate a potential new treatment for adults with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema). Sponsored by Apollo Therapeutics, the study focuses on Camoteskimab, an investigational injectable medication that targets the condition through a novel mechanism, distinct from currently FDA-approved therapies. The trial aims to assess the safety and effectiveness of Camoteskimab, particularly for individuals who have not responded well to existing treatments. Through this research, participating Veterans are helping to advance scientific understanding and expand future treatment options for this chronic and often debilitating skin condition.
