Personal Statement: 

Dr. Smith's role is to offer a wide range of mentoring support including research design, scientific and technical methods, presentation of results, grantsmanship and most importantly career development and guidance. He has a very good track record for mentoring physician scientists with over 60 publications co-authored with graduate students, post-doctoral fellow, and junior faculty as first authors. In recognition of these achievements, Dr. Smith was awarded a K24 mentoring grant from NIAID that took effect in May 2012 and provides more protected time for direct mentorship to Kevan in Dr. Smith's group.
