Personal Statement: 

In 1973, Dr. Hernandez-Cassis completed his medical education training at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogota, Colombia which was immediately followed by internship in 73/74 at the Hospital de Barranquilla, and Social Service in ‘74/75 at at the Hospital de Campo de la Cruz, Campo de La Cruz, Atlántico, Colombia. Dr. Hernandez-Cassis did residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital de Los Andes, Barranquilla between 1975 and 1978 a Fellowship in endocrinology between 1978 and 1980 at the Hospital San Juan de Dios, Bogota. For a period of nineteen years, he was an attending physician and simultaneously a professor of endocrinology.

Another fellowship in endocrinology came much later at the University Of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, FL from 1996 thru 1998. In 2000, Dr. Hernandez-Cassis became a faculty member at the University of Miami. In 2007, he completed graduate studies in public health and have since been a practicing physician in the United State.

Dr. Hernandez-Cassis is a physician-scientist with a track-record of performing basic and clinical research continuously since 1996. He continues to be enthusiastic about and deeply engaged in clinical research as well as in training future scientists and physicians at all levels (i.e., students, endocrinology fellows, and junior attending physicians).
