Personal Statement:
Dr. Garimella is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of
California at San Diego. Her research has focused on understanding the relationship of non-glomerular aspects of kidney function and its contributions to kidney function decline, cardiovascular disease, bone health and mortality independent of eGFR and albuminuria. Specifically, Dr. Garimella is studying how novel markers of tubular secretion and uromodulin are associated with kidney function decline, cardiovascular disease, and drug dosing. She has experience in patient recruitment for clinical trials, pharmacokinetic studies and kidney disease registries at multiple institutions. Additionally, Dr. Garimella is currently funded by the NIDDK through a K23 award for research evaluating novel secretory biomarkers to predict kidney disease progression with Dr. Joachim Ix as her primary mentor. Dr. Garimella has experience collaborating with investigators nationally and internationally using large cohort data, proposing analyses and taking projects to completion with successful publication in high impact journals.
