Personal Statement:

My research has primarily focused on applying theory-based interventions for health behavior change. I completed my graduate training at the University of Rhode Island’s Cancer Prevention Research Center where I studied behavior change theory and collaborated in developing a number of tailored interventions. During my postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer, I continued pursuing my work in mHealth interventions. I developed and pilot tested a text messaging system to supplement tobacco counseling, and served as PI on an mHealth project to promote lifestyle change in cancer survivorship (R03 CA142042). We also developed a tablet-based coping skills game to prevent relapse to smoking following hospitalization (R42DA029353). l have served as an investigator and clinical supervisor for two VA projects to improve uptake of telephone tobacco treatment among Veterans. I also led a CDC project (U48DP005008-02S3) that used EHRs to identify and offer tobacco treatment for cancer patients, and completed a VA Career Award in which we developed a nurse-based risk communication intervention for cancer patients who smoke. I am presently completing a VA IIR (15-297-2; 2017-2020) in which we are using the VA’s Annie texting program to engage patients and supplement tobacco cessation coaching. Most recently, I received an award from the California Tobacco-Related Disease Program to develop an all-nicotine cessation program for emerging adults and funding from the VA Office of Connected Care to study adoption of video telehealth by patient and providers.
